Last call for Princess Hillary

The Princess has a reputation to take care of (don’t we all), and Obama is not all too keen on having the show blown apart by Bill and Hillary. Lined up for padgent is a who’s-who of the political game. Kicking of proceedings is Michele Obama, Nancy Pelosi and maybe a guest appearance from the Lion King himself. Tuesday brings on Hillary paired with Mark Warner, Wednesday Bill takes the stage and we’ll be waiting with baited breath to see if he can finally pull his thumb out of his mouth. Thursday the media does its midnight scramble and we go for the all star platform with Al Gore, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden.

However, back on the previous thread the inimitable Kirribilli Removals made the following comment …

This is the last call for Princess Hillary, and if she doesn’t pull a dastardly trick at the conference, it’s all over for her. Sure, the Republicans would be the only winners, but that’s never stopped her in the past. It must be hard having your earthly form inhabited by an Alien ego, just busting to burst out and terrify the adoring crowd.

You have to ask the question – “Will the Princess be wearing a blue dress?”

Bring it on – round one “The Federation Offensive”

Democrats roll into Pittsburgh to garner support from the working-class region where Hillary Clinton fared well in the primaries.

Sens. Barack Obama and Joseph Biden took the momentum from their party’s convention — and the sizable poll bounce it produced — and plunged into the heart of this economically depressed region, where they badly need their energy and economic messages to click.

The Obama-Biden ticket arrived on Friday in Pennsylvania with a strong push from their convention. A national Gallup poll conducted Tuesday through Thursday gave Obama a 49 percent to 41 percent lead over McCain. They had been tied last week.

A ripple effect of 40 million people watching Obama, will take place over the next week. People talking about it with their neighbours and workmates. All good.

This is what we like to hear.

Lois Quam: Why I, a Clinton supporter, will vote for Barack Obama.

The priorities that matter to women are his priorities, too.

I was a strong supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton throughout the Democratic primaries.

As a woman, I am moved by her strength and courage in pounding 18 million cracks in that highest, hardest glass ceiling. As an American, I am inspired by her courage, passion and leadership.

And like Clinton, and the overwhelming majority of her supporters, I will vote for Barack Obama in November.

Northern Exposure:

The following segment is dedicated to Alaskan GOPper Senator, Ted “Fingers” Stevens, whose corruption charges are due to be heard in D.C. September as Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 2008 cranks into overdrive.
How can we ever thank you enough, Senator Fingers. What in the world will Sarah say when asked if she’s ever been a big fan of yours.

“Gaming the vote”

Had this week’s Denver convention not been as successful from a unity standpoint, McCain might not have needed as much to go for broke. {ie selecting Sarah}. If Obama secures his base, wins indies (as he’s easily doing) and dominates in the ground game, game over for McCain. Demographically, the mountain is too steep to climb.

McCain’s Faith in the Surge.

In terms of immediate impact, John McCain’s vice-presidential pick was a great success: We’re all talking about Sarah Palin today instead of Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, delivered before a crowd of 84,000. It’s hard, though, to forget the scene at Invesco Field last night. I didn’t get to go to the stadium — I was tethered to the pundit desk on the outdoor MSNBC set. The stadium is a fair distance away, on the other side of the South Platte River, but without the help of electronics I could hear the cheers echoing throughout downtown Denver. Someone described the on-site experience as “being inside a giant Barack Obama snow globe.

Registration needed for the rest of the story.

My, what big links she has. Click pic to enlarge.

Isn’t this an absolutely fabulous shot of Sarah kicking back after “all that guvrinmint stuff” is done and dusted? Sarah has always been fiercely proud of her ability to demonstrate her superiority over unarmed animals designed less intelligently than herself.
Lurking beneath that superficial folksiness lies lashings of unrequited alpha.
Be mighty surprised if Dick Cheney agrees to any pre-election “hunting” publicity shots.

With Sarah now a fully committed Veep wannabe-come- lately, Team GOPper have nixed their former No1 stike weapon (The Kid’s alleged experience deficit).

Not that she’s under any pressure to deliver or anything.

Cat, don’t think it’s in the GOPper character to quit without giving it an all-in the. These bastards don’t quit. They have to be taken out. That’s why I was delighted and relieved to see Baz show a bit of mongrel to 38 million Americans yesterday.

McCain has gone all-up on a bluffing hand one card before The River. Pros can smell a jailbird ploy a mile away.

They call it.

Hi Guys

Does anyone know how we here in Oz (being non-American citizens) can get involved in Obamas campaign? I just visited the official website and you got to be either a US citizen or a permanent resident to donate.

SJP at 413

You must be an American national to donate. But you can do other things spreading the word, calling potential voters, push information about policy positions via the web, connect up with any of the hundreds of special interest groups, etc. etc.

SJP at 415

First off, setup a blog for yourself at my my.barackobama.com

1. go to http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/hqblog
2. click on the link on the right “Log into MyBo”

When you create the account just use the zipcode 00000. When click to confirm the details you will be taken to you account admin page from which you can do things like managing your own blog, join communities, etc. For things like purchasing Obama stuff – I’m not sure, haven’t tried.

Enemy combatant,

Im not looking for “The Australian Democrats” who went from “keeping the bastards honest” to “keeping the bastards happy” and are now politically extinct.

well i a am dumbfounded. Palin I say PALIN for fercs sake?while i stll believe obama wont win because the us is still a racist state picking this looney just stuns me. Romney sure even drag back powell or condi rice but this?? whoever is advising mcain is either v smart or total idiot. guess we will see come nov.

Ecky, as for McCain trying to tar Obama with the brush of inexperience:

His campaign now needs to convince the public that it can imagine in the Oval Office a candidate who has spent just two years as governor of a state with a quarter of the population of Brooklyn.

NYTimes

…kinda looks like a lame argument, and as for pulling some of Hillary’s PUMA’s, I can’t see Ms Palin having much in the way of appeal for them either.

In fact, apart from her looking good draped over a bear (not closely related to the Puma! LOL), skin rug, I just cannot see what her supposed appeal is for the McCain campaign.

By the way, I just watched most of Hillary at the DNC (before being moved over by the kids and a Winnie the Pooh movie! LOL), from Lehrer the other day, and I have to say it was pretty powerful oratory.

Talk about exit with grace while pulling the party together! It’s also hard to see McCain using any of the Clinton anti-Obama primary stuff after a performance like that.

It’s been a great week for the kid, you’d have to say.

i think the choice of palin, though sure to have the conservative media in raptures, reflects how much trouble the mccain camp is in. they wouldnt do something this risky unless they had to.

and isnt it just slightly insulting to female voters to think they will vote for a candidate simply because she is a woman??

Oh god no!

I’m so full of shit I don’t even understand, let alone believe, half of the crap I write. 🙂

Evening all you John west salmon munchers.

It’s his last ditch chance of him joining his version of the “mile High” club without a joystick!

“For eight years, we’ve had a President who has a faith-based relationship with his own “gut,” a serene confidence undisturbed by reality. Obama, emerging as a candidate to succeed him, has demonstrated distinct evidence of a first-class intelligence and a first-class temperament. That seemed to leave experience—the length of Obama’s résumé—as a Republican angle of attack. Then came Friday morning. On his seventy-second birthday, John McCain selected as his running mate Sarah Palin, a social conservative who spent the nineties embroiled in the civic affairs of Wasilla, Alaska (pop. 6,715), won the Alaska governorship only two years ago, and has zero experience in national politics and world affairs—a baffling rejoinder to the assuring nomination of Joe Biden and to the historic achievement of Barack Obama. ♦

“For eight years, we’ve had a President who has a faith-based relationship with his own “gut,” a serene confidence undisturbed by reality.”

Yeah, like it a lot.

As late as Wednesday night, McCain’s inner circle didn’t realise that JMc would pick Palin. With The Fence’s recent shock selection as aspirant Veep, McBombster has attempted what the horse racing crowd refer to as , “getting out of jail on the last”. Every once in a while they get lucky, but most of the time they do their arse.

“Someone turned up the volume on a monitor broadcasting Fox News. Fred Barnes, the conservative writer, was enthusiastically reciting the McCain campaign’s talking points about Obama’s lack of experience. Porritt watched and nodded his head. “Fred Barnes!” he said. “God, I love that guy.”

36 hours later, Beauty and The Beast faced the music.

The consortium news article’s a real downer, megan.

I have a hunch that the GOPpers are not going to have a good convention. They move edgily like cattle before the first peals of thunder. Eyes widen, nostrils flare. Gustav is hovering, ever willing to conjure ugly memories.

“Why did the senior US leadership allow their citizens to be present there when they had no right to be in the security zone? And if they allowed it, I begin to suspect that it was done intentionally to organise a small victorious war.
“And if that failed, they wanted to create an enemy out of Russia and unite voters around one of the presidential candidates. Of course, a ruling party candidate, because it is only the ruling party that has this kind of resource,” he said.

Meanwhile – over in the real world, the NYT has an article out titled “The Saturday Word: Assessing Palin”.

DENVER – The assessments of Senator John McCain’s choice of Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate seem to be in general agreement: bold, true to Mr. McCain’s form, and ultimately undercutting his fundamental criticism that Senator Barack Obama is not ready to be president.

TMP have an interesting note about Palin’s foreign policy training strategy “Top McCain Adviser Jokes: Palin Will Learn National Security From McCain Before He Keels Over”

She’s going to learn national security at the foot of the master for the next four years, and most doctors think that he’ll be around at least that long,” said Charlie Black

People Magazine got a chance to interview McCain and Palin with some deep probing questions and insiteful answers:

Do you feel ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?
SARAH: Absolutely. Yup, yup. Especially with a good team around us.

Another NYT article details a couple of New Obama Ads tying McCain (and Palin in one) to GWB and a failed economy. Over on MSNBC they have this interesting video clip of Palin reporting the sports news – ummm …

I seem to think that there is surely a lot of media buzz over The Fences’ VP nomination and it has taken away some of the press re BOs’ good convention.

Whilst it has achieved the GOP intentions to do that it appears that most of this press is very negative about The Fence and is working in the Kids’ favour.

What is McCain Thinking? One Alaskan’s Perspective.

There is no doubt in my mind that many Alaskans are feeling pretty excited about this. But we live in our own little bubble up here, and most of the attention we get is because of The Bridge to Nowhere, polar bears, the indictment of Ted Stevens, and the ongoing investigation and conviction of the string of legislators and oil executives who literally called themselves “The Corrupt Bastards Club”.

Have been reading with amusement. Will be interesting to see who gets first yellow card.

I am starting to think that Palin is a bit more of a positive for McCain than I first believed. Obama’s only real method of attacking her is on her inexperience. But everytime he raises that issue, it points a finger straight back at him. The Democrats also have to be careful about the sexism angle. If they are seen condescending or bulling, then there could be a backlash. Further, she is the underdog in the VP debate. Therefore, even a loss can be spun into a victory for the McCain camp.

In any case, looking at RCP, my estimate is that all the other polls could be bumped up by six, giving an average of around an eight per cent lead to Obama – so roughly a seven-point convention bounce. That is above the fivethirtyeight average of six, so not too bad. With the stormfront approaching the GOP, I wonder if the bounce will fade as it usually does?

Given stories like the ones in the press today about 9 polar bears setting off on a desperate but likely doomed (without human intervention) 600km swim to try to get to the next piece of disappearing Arctic ice cap and Ms Pallin involved in the Alaskan legal challenge to the Bush Administration decision to declare polar bears a threatened species and a human influenced climate change skeptic – one wonders if the Yanks will learn to love this example of “not a Washington type”.

Gustav prompts talk of altering RNC agenda .

Officials with the McCain campaign and the Republican National convention are considering changing the event’s agenda as Hurricane Gustav bears down on the Gulf Coast.

Sen. John McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, plans to meet with officials in charge of the party’s convention planning in Minneapolis-St. Paul on Sunday to review the latest news on Hurricane Gustav and what their options might be and then consult with the presumptive presidential nominee to determine what changes may need to be made.

“I wouldn’t call it a nightmare, but it is a very perplexing challenge,” said a GOP official planning the event.

Bono fans fill Obama coffers.

The presidential hopeful has found just what he’s looking for in U2 devotees as they swell his campaign reserves.

ONE is charismatic, plays to packed stadiums and wants to change the world. The other is Bono. Now a group of U2 fans, struck by the parallels between Barack Obama and the Irish rock star, have become one of the US Democratic presidential nominee’s most enthusiastic band of supporters.

U2 fans for Obama, a collection of 103 U2 devotees, has raised almost $18,000 (€12,200) for the presidential hopeful’s campaign and organised more than 600 events to date.

USA Today/Gallup poll conducted yesterday, about 40 percent of respondents said they consider the 44-year- old first-term Alaska governor qualified to be president — the lowest level since President George H.W. Bush picked Indiana Senator Dan Quayle as his running mate in 1988. One-third of the people surveyed don’t think Palin is qualified, and the rest had no opinion.

By comparison, 57 percent of Americans considered Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden qualified to take the top office if necessary, with 18 percent doubting his qualifications.

There was a huge spike in viewership on the final night of the Democratic National Convention, with almost 40 million tuning in Thursday to see Sen. Barack Obama accept his party’s presidential nomination, according to estimates from Nielsen Media research.
That’s a big jump from the 26 million who saw primary-season rival Sen. Hillary Clinton speak Tuesday night and is nearly twice the four-day average live viewership of the 2004 Democratic convention. And, with 7.6 million black viewers, the event was the fifth-most-watched nonsports program among African-Americans in 11 years, Nielsen noted.

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/big-spike-convention-viewership-obama/story.aspx?guid={F957E37E-EC58-4342-85AA-9252A55E2307}&dist=msr_36

The ratings bonanza is creating more publicity in its own right.

Hurricane Gustav interupting the Repug convention shows that God must be a Democrat. 😈

Even a football stadium couldn’t hold Barack Obama’s audience.

An Oscars-esque 38.4 million watched Obama’s speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination, Nielsen Media Research said today.

Actually, the Oscar ceremony hasn’t averaged 38 million-plus viewers since 2006.

Obama’s Thursday speech, delivered before about 75,000 at the football home of the Denver Broncos, not only topped this past year’s Oscars (32 million), but every night of the just-concluded Beijing Games (which, at its best, scored 34.9 million), and last spring’s American Idol finale (31.7 million).

The speech drew more viewers than President Bush’s last State of the Union address (37.5 million) and was easily the most-watched hour of this week’s Democratic convention.

http://de.eonline.com/uberblog/b26648_obamas_ratings_touchdown.html

SJP @ 414 Find Obama and Democrat You Tube video’s. Give them a 5 star rating and save them in favourites. This makes them rank higher and helps get more people to see them. You can also make your own You Tube video’s for Obama. Then link them to other pro Obama websites etc, this again helps boost the rankings and attracts more visitors for them. Email friends (put political cartoons in the email first) asking them to help. This becomes a viral email, which will more than likely reach the USA as well.

The polling does include Obama’s speech. The third day in their series of polls released Saturday morning US time (Sundy here) would have been Friday, the day after Obama’s speech. Any such bounce would be already evident.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

“The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday is the first to include reaction to both Barack Obama’s acceptance speech and John McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin to be his running mate. ”

The Palin selection likely starved Obama of a bit of oxygen.

At the Democratic convention, as during primary season, almost every oversold plotline was wrong. Those Hillary dead-enders — played on TV by a fringe posse of women roaming Denver in search of camera time — would re-enact Chicago 1968. With Hillary’s tacit approval, the roll call would devolve into a classic Democratic civil war. Sulky Bill would wreak havoc once center stage.

On TV, each of these hot-air balloons was inflated nonstop right up to the moment they were punctured by reality, at which point the assembled bloviators once more expressed shock, shock at the unexpected denouement.

Unity on Display at Tubbs Jones Memorial.

Presidential candidates rarely linger anywhere. But today Sen. Barack Obama spent nearly four hours inside a Cleveland church at a memorial service for Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

He had some impressive company: Former president Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, along with Sen. Joseph Biden, his wife Jill, and Michelle Obama. All were there to pay their respects to the late Democratic congresswoman, who died suddenly last week. Tubbs Jones was one of Clinton’s most prominent African American supporters, an outspoken loyalist until the New York senator dropped out of the race. But then she switched to Obama.

Worst Pick Ever?

In fact, as Palin’s cultural views become better known — she oppose abortion in all cases and opposes the use of birth control pills and condoms even among married couples — she will undoubtedly scare the hell out of the soccer moms and 98% of Hillary voters. In fact, many of these women may feel insulted by this choice in that McCain and the GOP think they are stupid and would bypass their own interest (reproductive and economic) to vote for the ticket due to gender and anger that Hillary was not the nominee.

As a distraction from Obama’s speech it may work, but long term, all the negatives will come out.

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/08/30/worst_pick_ever.html

The more theses stories surface surely it must mean the fairer will be the election! Hopefully.

Harris, who previously commissioned computer scientists to examine the programming language, asserts that these weren’t just honest mistakes.

“What it looked like to us is that the program was literally Swiss cheese in terms of the holes and problems in it,” she said from her office in Renton, Wash. “From everything I’ve seen in these systems over the past five years, they were designed for tampering.”

Florida appears snake bit on elections – again.

From the hanging chads on paper ballots in the razor-thin 2000 Bush-Gore race to the undervotes on the touchscreens in the 2006 Buchanan-Jennings battle, our state commands national attention for election fiascoes.

This week’s episode, though, may only be a hiccup, but history works against us.

Sarasota County’s brand spanking new voting machines did not work as expected. These machines, you might recall, replaced the touchscreens that got the blame for the 2006 mess.

So Sarasota ditched those electronic gizmos and went for paper ballots in order to secure a lasting record. But guess how those paper ballots are counted? Yep, electronic scanners.

As Sarasota elections officials began counting absentee ballots, they encountered a glitch with the software that uploads the totals, which would not send the results to the main server.

That’s all computer talk for a system failure. The Premier Election Solutions Inc. scanners did not work as advertised.

And guess what? The same exact machines failed in the same manner in Hillsborough County.

Could this be a bad omen for the big November election?

GOP Faces Tough Convention Decisions as Hurricane Nears Gulf.

In an interview scheduled to air on “Fox News Sunday,” host Chris Wallace asked McCain: “Are there any circumstances under which you would consider suspending the Republican convention if the hurricane really bashes that part of the country?”

McCain answered: “I’m afraid, Chris, that we may have to look at that situation and we’ll try to monitor it. I’ve been talking to governors Jindal [Louisiana], Barbour [Mississippi], Riley [Alabama], Crist [Florida], I’ve been talking to all of them, but you know it just wouldn’t be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a natural disaster, so we’re monitoring it from day to day and I’m saying a few prayers too.”

It also wouldn’t do for the hurricane and peoples plight to take all that attention away from John McCain.

Wonder who’ll picture Sarah as a kid in Creation Science School sitting at a desk looking wide-eyed flummoxed while teacher Condi(who we all know is extremely strict)resplendent in tangentially fetishistic attire gives a lesson in International Realpolitik. And variations of the above. Oil derricks with bold crosses aloft pump outside the classroom alongside a dead family of withered polar bears.

I have rated over 100 Democrat related video’s today. How many have you done?

It helps get more votes than letter boxing and not as much hard slog.

And Gouldie’s having a bit of a worry again. How unusual.

–“I am starting to think that Palin is a bit more of a positive for McCain than I first believed”.

–“The Palin selection likely starved Obama of a bit of oxygen.”

Maaate….. we all know how much you want The Kid to get POTUSed-up come November. You remind us of it on an ongoing basis. All the freakin’ time as a matter of fact. Let me show some empathy here. It’s perfectly OK for a bloke to feel anxious about events particularly with so much at stake. But don’t sweat the small stuff. Think Big Picture. Think Lloyd Fullerton.
Were he observing recent events my dear departed granddad, a politically astute vulgarian with a heart of gold, would have said:

“Son, Barry’s not gunna win, he’s gunna shit in!”

Perhaps these words of comfort will allay your concerns.

WORST PICK EVER

In my estimation as a pollster and analyst, while historic for the GOP in selecting their first woman on a national ticket, this choice may be the worst selection by a major party nominee for President in modern times.

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2008/08/30/worst_pick_ever.html

can someone here please explain to me why i can only read the first 200 comments on any post on 538.com.

Does this problem occur for others? is there a trick i’m missing?

For example, if their are 430 comments to an article i can always only get the first 200.

I’m flummoxed lol

Oooo, Cindy McCain is offended by Barck Obama’s comments about their wealth. You know, his comments on the fact that McCain doesn’t know how many houses he has. Oooo.

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos reports: Democrats’ attacks on her family’s wealth are unfair and offensive, Cindy McCain said today in an interview airing tomorrow on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

For nearly two weeks, Democrats have repeatedly hit Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for saying he is unaware of how many houses he owns, calling the presumptive Republican presidential nominee out of touch with everyday Americans. In his acceptance speech at the Democratic convention on Thursday, Democratic nominee Barack Obama turned up the heat on McCain, saying he “doesn’t know” about the lives of middle-class Americans.

Regarding “Yup Yup” Palin

Don’t mistake that this is a pander to women. It is not. That is only the narrative that the right wing media have been told to push.

This is purely a pander to the wingnut evangelical base.

If Possum could get a hold of the GOP version of the Crosby_Textor work last week , the glaring item would be “enthusiasm”. Obama enthusiasm is through the roof at the GOTV level whereas it is terrible for McCain.

Karl Rove’s whole GOTV operation is based around evangelicals. Without it, the GoPpers are looking at a wipeout.

Sarah Palin is an attempt at staving off 60 Senate Seats and a wipeout.

Obama and Axelrod and Plouffe are the new Rove(only with decency levels above that of a jackal). You can sense Rove’s awe of them all the time when he speaks. He is afraid. He knows how elections are won.

McSenile was an inch away from naming HolyJoe as his VP. That’s who he wanted all along. FFS he has met Palin once. Unbelievable.

Rove went ballistic behind the scenes and demanded McSenile not offer it to Joe and demanded Joe not accept it even if offered. “The great Repug disseminator” Bob Novak was even wheeled off his deathbed and out of retirement to publicly demand that Lieberman not be picked.

If Joe was picked there would have been NO GOTV. Rove knew this , but McSenile is clueless.

He was TOLD to pick Palin or all bets were off at the convention.

Obama’s team are SMART. They know the utter failings of Palin as a VP pick to Independants.

They will not attack her at all. Their narrative from now on, which has been handed to them, is to tie McCain/Palin to the failure of Bush Policy.

Palin is a shining example of ideology over competance.

That is the FAILING of George . W . Bush.

The election is OVER.

Obama passed the test this week and McCain failed it.

Storm scrambles GOP convention.

President Bush is unlikely to make it to the Republican National Convention, and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) may deliver his acceptance speech via satellite because of the historically huge hurricane threatening New Orleans, top officials said.

Late Saturday night, the RNC was planning to issue a release announcing the formation of a “working group of representatives from each of the states in Hurricane Gustav’s path. The group will ensure that all affected delegates have information and assistance in real time.

Enemy Combatant, to assist, I still think that because of Palin and the conference, Obama will do better than my previously predicted 298. I am just trying to look at Palin in the worst possible light. (from our perspective)

Chris B, electoral-vote, for whatever reason, is always a day behind realclearpolitics on putting the polling into his model. Gallup and Rasmussen both polled on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday for Saturday release.

To get the full effects, though, we need to wait until Tuesday morning our time, as that will be the last set of polling that does not include any Republican conference stuff. (assuming the GOP go ahead with it, what with storms looming.

As to bounces fading, according to fivethirtyeight, most convention bounces do in fact fade.

This is an excellent article on Michelle and the girls. As well as Hillary and Chelsea.

Michelle Obama: “I Still Pinch Myself”.

Michelle Obama: I’ve done two speeches, two or three today, and I’ve talked about this historic day, the 45th anniversary of Dr. King speaking at the Lincoln Memorial with his “I Have a Dream” speech. I mean, how amazing that these things are happening on the same night. It is moving. It’s powerful. It’s emotional. And I still pinch myself and think, “am I really a part of this?” I’m very proud of Barak. I’m proud of the man that he is. I’m proud of the race that he’s run, but I’m proud of the fact that he is always thinking about how to include regular folks in this process.

Does the next president have to be tech-savvy?

Gadget geeks are debating just how important it is for the presidential candidates to be plugged in.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama promises to appoint the nation’s first chief technology officer if elected.

Last week, he made mobile history by sending a text message to 2.9 million people, announcing that he had picked as his running mate Sen. Joe Biden, who isn’t beloved by the geek elite. Biden scored 37.5 percent on the voter guide for CNET, a technology news site.

Both campaigns have embraced the use of sites like Facebook and YouTube. In July, BarackObama.com had 3.3 million unique viewers, and JohnMcCain.com had 1.6 million, according to Nielsen Online.

Still be afraid . Factory workers ,farm workers ,and most blue collar workers in the us. hate obamba for his elitist views. McCain will win because he is white ,and the us. is still a white, right leaning, god fearing, gun toting, mom and apple pie country, As i have said before enjoy your false dawn.

Catrina you can belive in your mind that i am ron but belive me he is much more of a, i am right ,no prisoners taken than me. Maybe you sweethart should try being a bit more mature and not such a [nasty person].

Harry, great piece of analysis and writing. Can you remember where you got the skinny on Turd Blossom’s dummy spit. No doubt that Johnny Bomb-Bomb was all over Holy Joe like a toucher at an office xmas party before Sarah got his tap. Gee that’s too bad for Joey though, he was such a great side-kick recently to JMc in I-raq.

“From the moment Ted Stevens introduced us, I knew in my maverick gut that Sarah Palin would be my VP nominee”.

Yeah, right! Tell it to the marines, Fly Boy.

The New Yorker has an article up : Palin on Obama. It’s an interesting piece in that it’s current and shows Pain’s priorities re. energy independence related to Obama’s direction (which make sense with respect to her state of Alaska interests).

It was reported in various places last week about the insider panic that Joe would get the gig and that Rove had vetoed it.

I saw him asked about it on Fox Noise and he neither denied it or confirmed it. It was portrayed as a given by him and the Fox anchor that it was true.

Rove’s apprentice, Steve Scmidt, took over McCains operation about 2 months ago. Rove is still the Gatekeeper.

And they don’t wheel out Bob Novak unless they think it absolutely necessary.

If Lieberman were picked, it would have destroyed the Rove made GOTV. But there simply aren’t enough fundies to win it for the Repugs to cover all the desertions since 2004 and the additions to the Dems.

But it does save them from the decimation that Joe would have caused.

McSenile is the most reckless candidate a campaign will ever have the displeasure of trying to manage.

I was watching Obama’s speech live on CNN the other day.

After it, they crossed back to the talking heads to discuss it. One of the talking heads was Mitt Romney’s Campaign Manager Alex Castelanos.

His comment was: “Whoever doesn’t get the tap to be McCain’s VP is the luckiest politician in the country”.

It struck me as a very strange thing to say and immediately knew that it wasn’t Romney and that he knew who it was. He wasn’t impressed.

Thanks Harry, Gaffy and Cat. Appreciate your cyber scurries. I should have been more specific. Was hoping that someone might have leaked the words that Turd B. used to JBB.

Tracking Gustav; suggest scroll down and enlarge jpegs. Mayor Ray Nagin wasn’t exaggerating when he ordered everyone out of NOLA. As someone on kos said, let’s watch the GOPpers try and exploit this disaster to make McBombster and his trophy Veep into good old fashioned American heroes. Maybe The Imbecile could lend them Air Force 1 so they can get a good over-view before they start handing out bottled water to devasted families.

Sarah weepily to camera while holding bedraggled and soaked Shirley Temple look-alike on her lap:

“These American kids are suffering…….(sob)….. they are all my children now.”
“Shirley” looks dreamily into “mommie’s” eyes, reaches up and hugs her.

I think the convo would have went something like:

“Hello John, this is Karl. WTF r u thinkin you senile ol f*ck. If you pick f*ckin Joe Lieberman i’ll have a few dark knights upend you head first in the toilet cubicle of your choice and introduce you to Larry “wide stance” Craig.
Got that…you senile old fool.”

Interesting video from October 2007 with Palin in which she’s stating that she’s undecided – citing issues of national security and energy independence.

And on a totally unrelated subject, the NYT has an article up dealing with the Bush Legacy. It’s an interesting read (8 pages in total) that gets into psyche of President facing personal accountability.
