Contributor Accounts

The default setup of Worpress security for comments is inherently insecure in that all one needs to do to impersonate an user is to know the alias name and email address combination. A much more secure solution is to establish an account with Wordpress, have that account configured as a contributor with this site, and then you can simply login once, and Wordpress.com will know who you are. In addition, you can manage you account and do things like set you nickname so that things display properly on comments you post. More importantly, other people will not be able to impersonate your identity.
Here is the process:
- Register with Wordpress for an account using http://wordpress.com/signup/.
- Don’t worry too much if you can’t get the username you choose (you can set you preferred nickname later). Once you provide a username, your email address and a password to the Wordpress account creation form, you will receive an email containing a confirmation link to complete the account creation process.
- After you have successfully created you account, login with the username and password you defined in the previous step. This is take you to you Wordpress account home page and at the top-left corner of the page should see a ‘My Account’ menu. Under that menu you can select the ‘Edit Profile’ sub-menu which will take you to a page containing information about your nickname. Scroll down a bit to find the nickname field (which will probably container your username as the default value) and change this to the alias you use here. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Update Profile’.
- Scroll back to the nickname and just below that you should see a drop-down menu from which you select the name you want to appear when you post here. You should see you nickname in the list - select that, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Update Profile’ again.
OK - now you have a Wordpress account containing your email address, your username, and your password. To complete the process come back to this page and try adding a comment to the post below saying something like - “I’m ready!” (remember - your still logged in as far as wordpress.com is concerned so you should see some info in your comment field saying you logged in as ‘Your Nickname’). As soon as I see your comment I’ll be able to grant you Contributor privs to PB US Edition.
With Commit privs in place you will be able to write the next PB/US post. Once you have written a post someone with Editor privs does the job of scheduling if and when your post goes public. If your just getting started on all of this blogging thing - don’t hesitate to add a comment below with questions and I’ll try and help out (keeping in mind that I’m kind of new to this myself).
Once your registered with PB US, you can login using the link at the bottom of the sidebar on the right. When you login you will be taken directly to you management page here at PB (where you can review any of your posts in progress and other boring administrative stuff). To view the site and do you regular comment stuff, just click the button ‘Visit Site’ and your set.

EC - basically you have created the blog entry on your own blog, not this blog. When you browse over here to this page you should see the ‘Site Admin’ link just over on the right. Click on that and you’ll be inside this blog.
P.S. Have emailed you some details addressing the login issue.
UPDATE: EC’s account is up and operational.

I understand some of the problems EC has been having but your case is somewhat baffling. For some reason several of your posts have been trapped but I can’t see anything in them that would trigger this. For the moment I’m still researching.

EC and megan have been granted Editor privs which enable self management of Akismet Spam issue (instructions on spam management have been spent by email to EC and megan).
